Snow Day

We had two snow days this week from school.  We got about 12-15 inches of snow.  Aiden and I decided to venture out into the snow to play.  I think we spent more time getting all the clothing on than we did outside.  Aiden likes the snow but does not like the gloves and boots.  It makes it very difficult for him to move.  As soon as we get in the snow he attempts to take off the gloves.  As you can see from the photos, Aiden had a good time.

Potty Time

Children with 1p36 Deletion Syndrome usual learn to use the potty later than other children if they learn at all.  We bought Aiden an Elmo potty when he was 18 months old just to introduce him to it.
I would put Aiden on the potty just before his bath and he would usually scream to get off of it.  In the last couple of weeks, Aiden has taken an interest again in the potty.  Not sure if it because Elmo talks when you are on the potty or if Aiden sees other children using the potty at school. We put him on first thing in the morning and before his bath at night.  Over the weekend, Aiden actually went in the potty!  He was very proud of himself and clapped in excitement.  We are not pushing him to use it yet but it was a very exciting weekend at our house.

Climbing

Aiden has not had a seizure in 3 months this weekend.  Going from 100-250 head-drop seizures a day to 0 is a big change.  Seizures take a lot out of a person and make it very difficult to develop.  These last couple of weeks Aiden has become a lot stronger.  He is able to crawl very fast, go up a couple of stairs on his hands and feet independently and last weekend started climbing on the couch!

We were very proud of Aiden learning to climb on the couch but it does introduce a new problem for us.  We used the couch and a baby gate to keep Aiden in the family room.  Now that he has learned to climb on the couch, it is not safe put up the baby gate.  Aiden now has full roam of the main floor of the house.  We have had to remove all frames, candles and anything that he can pull off tables.  He finds it very funny to pull things down off the tables.
